Ashbloom is a patient and opportunistic weed that lies dormant within the soil for years at a time before sprouting and growing with magical rapidity in the time immediately after a wildfire. It has a gritty gray-green color to it which helps it to blend into the ashen wastes it prefers, but once it has been pollinated its flower bud turns a brilliant orange-red, opening and then quickly dying so that it might spread its airborne seeds to germinate as far as the wind can blow them. The plant’s flower bud is a potent alchemical ingredient, if one can be harvested between after it ripens but before it dries up and the seeds blow away, and provide the basis for many recipes that focus on hardiness and vigor, as well as quite a few poisonous concoctions.
