Make this call when you strike a character or creature’s limb or body. If you hit the head, neck, or groin of a humanoid target this call has no effect.
If the target is a humanoid and the place you struck them was not protected by Heavy Armor, they suffer one of the following effects depending on where you struck them:
Non-humanoid targets may suffer Maiming or Hit Point loss differently, but usually will still take a large amount of damage from such a blow if they are not heavily armored.
Arrows and Crossbow Bolts automatically inflict Impale when they hit a target in a location that is not protected by Heavy Armor; you do not need to call Impale for your shot to have this effect, but you may do so at your discretion to call attention to the fact that you hit someone. Even if an arrow hits a piece of Heavy Armor or the head/neck/groin, negating the Impale effect, the target still takes 1 point of damage from the shot.
