Demographics

The Alliance is a melting pot of peoples, with many immigrants from other nations mixing in with its native Amethran and Vauldan populations. They welcome anyone regardless of lineage, though they do tend to have an unspoken expectation that those of Dwarven, Elven, or Winter Fae descent will be a bit dull and unadventurous until one of them proves otherwise.

Lineages

Humans are the dominant lineage amongst the Corsairs. They make up the majority of the native Amethran population, and the Vauldan invasion and occupation was primarily human in composition.

Dwarves came to the Archipelago with the Vauldan occupation, and while no Clans have relocated there in the last two centuries many Dwarves seeking personal fortune or refuge from a checkered past still immigrate to the Alliance every decade. They tend to find the reckless and impulsive nature of Jadeite culture a bit stressful, but their focus and drive allow them to make great contributions if they have the support of their Crew. Dwarves tend to become Portsmiths, and form a backbone of craft and discipline amongst the Portsmith Crews that has helped the Alliance gain its current level of prosperity.

Elves are few and far between in the Archipelago. The Ashen Elves were primarily located in the palaces and cities of Amethras, perishing in the Great Flood of the Perdition at the end of the Godswar, and no major Elven populations have immigrated into the region in the millennia since. Elves tend to find the impulsive and adventurous culture of the Corsairs infuriatingly chaotic, resulting in few of them willingly immigrating to the Alliance on their own. Nonetheless, for every population there are exceptions, and if you look hard enough you can find the occasional Elf acting as an accountant, logistician, or diplomat amongst the Corsairs, carving out a niche of logic for themselves and enjoying the chaotic ambience that their Crew creates around them.

Summer Fae in particular find the nation’s attitude towards life refreshing, leaning into their inborn desire to do things and casting away worries about the future. Many of the most famous Captains, Swashbucklers, Divers, and Cazadores are Summer Fae.

In contrast, Winter Fae often have a hard time adapting to life amongst the Corsairs, their natural patience fighting against the adventurous instinct of the Jadeite culture. Despite this, those Winter Fae who aren’t driven to distraction by the impulsive nature of their fellow Corsairs are treasured for the calming influence and perceptive insight they often bring to a Crew.

Autumn Fae find the tight bonds of a Crew to be very comforting, adapting quickly to that part of Jadeite culture and learning from their Crew how to embrace the adventure in life. They act as a glue that keeps the Crew functioning, as well as building connections between Crews to make deals and build alliances.

Similarly, Spring Fae find the open and authentic nature of Corsair society to be freeing. They never have to worry about being judged for emoting or feeling things, and can be as open and emotive as they want without disturbing their Crewmates. Spring Fae are often seen as being the most honest and open-hearted amongst their number, and thus the best weather-gauge of what the rest of the Crew is feeling; if the Spring Fae in a Crew are feeling unhappy about something, the Captain had best change course before they get evicted from their position as leader.
