This ritual can be used in one of two ways: to witness an oath and record it in the Celestial Archives, or to learn the status of an oath and whether the person who swore it has stayed true to their word.
If you wish to witness an oath, the ritual has a Ritual Power requirement of 4. Until the next sunrise, you can register an oath sworn by yourself or another character with Wheelhouse. You must bring the Player ID# of the character swearing the oath, as well as a text copy of the oath itself signed by that person, to Wheelhouse when you register this ritual’s performance. It would be preferred for you to bring the person who swore the oath to Wheelhouse when you register the ritual; if you do not, Wheelhouse will contact that character’s player during Downtime to verify that they did indeed swear the oath.
If you wish to verify the status of an oath that you have documented by a previous casting of this ritual, this ritual has a Ritual Power requirement of 15. When you register the ritual’s performance with Wheelhouse, try to bring the person who swore the oath in question with you so that Wheelhouse can speak with them about it and inform you of the status of their oath. If the person who swore the oath ever breaks it, they are highly encouraged to come to Wheelhouse to register this in the system so that you can gain a speedier answer when you attempt to verify the oath’s status.
You cannot verify the status of an oath that you were not witness to.
Note that Wheelhouse has no way to compel a player to speak truthfully, so this ritual is vulnerable to players simply lying OOC to Wheelhouse about whether or not they have broken their oath. It’s recommended that you only ever use this ritual on a character whose player is fully onboard with the roleplay opportunities inherent in it.
