Flectere

The folk of Flectere are an independent lot. Before they were incorporated into the Empire after the Early Churning, they had a long history of rising up and killing the various petty kings who ruled the region whenever their rule grew too tyrannical. Even once it was assimilated by the Empire, the Imperial Governors posted there always knew to use a light touch when dealing with the Flecterans, as the folk of the region never lost the knack for handling hunting spears and boarding axes, and weren’t shy about informing Imperial officials when some of their policies needed to change if they didn’t want a revolt on their hands.

The region is one of the two main ship-building and maritime centers of the Empire; though the many smaller shipyards around Flectere’s coastline can’t compete in sheer size with the Imperial Shipyard in Lucenastu, collectively they produce more ships than their behemoth competitor in the neighboring province. Flecterans also have a real claim to being the best sailors of the Empire, producing more Imperial Admirals than any other Province and being the first place that the Imperial Navy looks for recruits, as well as having the biggest and most productive fishing fleet in the Empire. They are also famed as hunters, with a tradition of prowling the Hederan Forest for game and resources that stretches back to the Interregnum.
