Rose Court

The capital of Faen’miir, Giu’lan Ros (or The Bearing Rose in Common, which has come to be known simply as the Rose Court), is the physical and metaphorical heart of the country. It is home to The Court and all those who serve Queen Titania and Faen’miir. The city is fashioned almost entirely of stone, a distinctive pink granite that is quarried from nearby hills, its roofs made of copper shingles, giving the city a distinctive appearance unlike any other on the Continent. Though the city has been lived in since the time of the Interregnum, all traces of its previous incarnation as the capital of the God King have been erased, with no structures of the grey marble he liked to build in remaining above-ground in the present day.

The sheer size of the Rose Court is often shocking to new arrivals; it is nearly the equal of any of the Halls in its population, industry, and vibrancy. The ever-expanding granite walls of the city tower above the streets like divine commandments, and in many places it is impossible to see greenery that is not contained by pink granite without climbing to the top of one of the many bell-towers that stud the city’s landscape.

Not only is it the political center of the country, it is also a major cultural, educational, and economic hub. It hosts the University D’sur, the infamous Grand Row theaters, the enormous Queen’s Market, and so many more major cultural landmarks. It boasts countless statues, fountains, and gardens, each with its own name and a loving community who care for it. Museums and art galleries are dotted all across the city, focusing on a myriad of topics and artistic styles — the oddest of the lot, and the most distinctively Faen’miir, is the grand converted mansion that now houses the Museum Of Sanitation Engineering and the Gallery Of Blooming Soil.

The Rose Court’s schools are the peak of the nation’s educational system; the best and brightest minds in Faen’miir come from their schools in the Halls to study advanced topics and master their subjects in the city’s universities and crafthalls. Graduation Month is a frothing city-wide event every year, as the graduates of the various schools and universities are tested by their professors, visiting scholars, and Vallarian clerics to see how well they have mastered their lessons and researched their theses. The public testing of graduates brings in large crowds, as much for the chance to learn something new as for the sheer spectacle of it.

The city is said to be a cradle of new beginnings, its social safety net policies fostering the dreams and redemption of those who have fallen on hard times or who were born into poverty. Someone is always in need of a helping hand, a hard worker, and a creative and adaptable mind, and there is good coin available to any who can provide those things, regardless of their station in life. For those who cannot find a way to make ends meet even in the city’s unique and vibrant economy, the embassies of the other nine nations are always open; the Queen herself has decreed that any Miirfolk who no longer wishes to call Faen’miir their home shall have her assistance in relocating to a new nation.
