Vesterlund

Vesterlund is the western-most region of Iskaldur, on the other side of the Seilevind mountains from Gronenden and just north of the Serpent’s Teeth of Grimmwold. The land here suffered less from the original curse of unlife, and so the soil is more fertile than in other parts of the nation; unfortunately, the land was so deformed by the cataclysms that struck it that there are precious few parts of the region where farming is still possible, despite the soil’s fecundity. The pine forests of Vesterlund grow densely, the woods thick with beasts, monsters, and magical herbs. The folk of this Province are expert in woodscraft and hunting, and are some of the best open-sea sailers and fishermen of the Continent, rivaling the Cazadores of the Jadefang Archipelago for their skill in taking down beasts of both forest and deep sea.

The Skaldings who hail from Vesterlund have less of a history of raiding foreign lands than the rest of their nation, as the Serpent’s Teeth forced them to swing out into the Stormwrack if they wished to hunt for treasure outside of Grimmwold’s shores. Even the best hunters amongst them are wary of their southern neighbor, well aware of the dangerous things that lurk beneath the Grimmwold’s darkened canopy. Instead of raiding foreigners, the Vesterlundi historically had a habit of raiding each other and their neighbors in Gronenden, giving them a reputation amongst other Skaldings as viciously effective fighters with a preference for subterfuge and underhanded tricks.
