Kelsgarth is a heavily-forested Province in mid-western Aurendale, bordering the southern reaches of Dampfhelt in the Grimmwold and the northern portion of the Spring Hall in Faen’miir. The region was ruled by a druidic dynasty, the Keldenor, before the Miiradian Invasion in the Fifth Century, and the culture of the region still has a deep reverence for nature. The Province’s name comes from the name for the Kellish people and the old Grimmtongue word for “garden.”
Kelsgarth is covered in forest, with a thin strip of traditional farmland along the banks of the Blackwater near the Great City of Kelindel. Despite its incredibly rugged appearance, travel through the Province is remarkably swift — the woods are carefully maintained by Companies of Springwalkers, who keep the roads through the forest wide, smooth, and clear of deadfalls and weeds and tend to a wide variety of fruiting plants that grow densely along the pathways beneath the canopy. Collectively this gives the Province a remarkably productive economy, exporting fruit, timber, and forest products in large quantities.
The two Great Cities that call Kelsgarth home are Kelindel and Lethornia. Kelindel is a major hub for the Hearthwatch and druids and hunters of all sorts, its libraries and schools known far and wide as having a depth of knowledge on the wilds that only a few other locations can match. Lethornia, the former capital of Keldenor, is one of the great cultural centers of the Federation, and a major producer of alchemical goods and medicines. The two Cities treat each other like siblings, with a loud rivalry that immediately turns into steely solidarity whenever the Kelsgarth or its forest are threatened.
